I have a business in my home. Is that a problem when I'm picking out a house to buy?
Itís not a problem if you do your due diligence first. If the house is in a community that is in an association, the first hurdle is to check with the association to be assured that there are no restrictions for your business in that community.
Once you have confirmed there is no association, then a search is needed at the courthouse; search the covenants of the subdivision to be assured that no restrictions for your business exist.
You will need to contact the zoning department in the particular city or county to be check any zoning restrictions.
Donít forget to obtain the required business license of that municipality.
Finally, check with your tax advisor concerning the tax considerations of a home business and how this might affect your house.
